Delhi, ON - The originator of the "extreme-duty" V-Floor™ aluminum body trailer has now introduced trailers with a new live floor design specially engineered to handle hot asphalt.
Mike Kloepfer, President and Chief Designer of Titan Trailers Inc., unveiled Titan's latest innovation at the National Pavement Expo in California. According to Kloepfer, this is the very first aluminum-body trailer to be custom designed for hauling asphalt with an updated version of the V-Floor self-unloader from KEITH® WALKING FLOOR®.
With the new V-Floor unloader, Titan asphalt trailers combine the light weight and durability of Titan THINWALL™ trailers with the improved productivity and load-handling capabilities of a live floor system.
The solid steel V-Floor "extreme duty" unloading system developed for these Titan trailers is specially engineered with heat-resistant end-to-end bearings to withstand the high temperatures of asphalt loads. Titan was first to bring the V-Floor aluminum trailer concept to other extreme-duty hauling applications such as scrap metal, abrasive aggregates and C&D debris. The V-Floor unloading system is based on a live floor of steel V-panels designed to withstand heavy loading impacts. To handle fine abrasives, KEITH eliminated seals from the V-Floor design by overlapping the V-slats and mounting them on a full-length bearing.
For asphalt haulers, the new Titan trailer offers greater productivity by allowing operators to control the speed at which the asphalt unloads into the paver, avoiding the hang ups and sudden load shifts that can occur when unloading from a dump trailer. By walking the load out, operators can also ensure that the trailer maintains a sure footing, especially on uneven ground, to minimize any tipping hazards that go along with elevating the load on a dump hoist. Maneuvering and unloading around utility lines or overpasses is easier, too, since there is no need to raise the body to unload.
With the THINWALL™ trailer design, asphalt haulers now have a durable lightweight aluminum-body alternative that can reduce their fuel costs while it delivers more years and miles service than conventional trailers.
