Delhi, ON - Titan Trailers Inc., the developer of the original THINWALL™ extruded aluminum sidewall for transfer trailers, is creating a sensation overseas with the delivery of its first walking floor trailer to the United Kingdom.
According to Mike Kloepfer, "The strength and light weight of the Titan THINWALL solves familiar problems for English haulage companies. This trailer is 2 tons lighter than any of the competitive trailers. They have a 44,000 kg (96,800 lbs.) limit on 6 axles and 25 tons is considered a good load. In the UK, they separate waste into light and heavy material, so they started building bigger steel trailers to carry larger waste loads, but then they got into weight penalties with the heavy material. With the Titan, we can put on loads up to 120 yards and 27 tons.”
Customers appear to agree. One of Titan's first customers is “over the moon with the money he’s making.” The customer, Martin Lavelle of MJO Haulage Ltd. has been hauling waste for 6 years and is now operating four trailers, including the new Titan. “I like the looks of it, for one thing, and the way it’s built. With the loads we’re carrying, I get 5000 lbs. more loaded on the Titan than on the steel trailers doing the same job. The other trailers just aren’t made for waste. The Titan can take the punishment, its axles are nice and high, and the hydraulic tarp gets out of the way. And you can see the difference in the figures for fuel costs.”
Kloepfer sees a bright future for Titan in the UK and on the continent. “Waste is very big in and around London; there’s opportunity in recycling, in wood chips. And there could also be potential for hauling coal. With Titan’s size and weight and its strength, it’s winning in all areas.”
